The paintings in the Felt Cute body of work are contemporary Trompe l'oeils that challenge the viewer's perception of authorship and highlight the objectification of women by neural network-generated imagery. Anaïs Goupy delves into the world of social media 'success strategies', particularly on Instagram, to extract data from posts with millions of likes. A control algorithm to render images processes the large datasets consisting of text, body forms and colours. The artificially created dynamic portraits hover between vaguely recognisable women and their different body parts. The unexpected results highlight how neural networks misrepresent their personas by reducing them to single body parts. The results are artistically integrated into physical paintings in a process that blends analogue, digital and mechanical methods. Multilayering acrylic painting with digital prints, Goupy reshapes and closes the circle of machine-dominated art production.
